Jasmin Dobrovsky has always loved poppies and used to press their leaves between the pages of her diary when she was little. These are inportant flowers in Austria. 
In "Portrait of Poppy" the flowers are stylized, decorative elements, that sorround the female figure. She seems contemplative, sourrounded by beauty. The fragile, soft flowers underline the tender moment.
